A trendy little pullover vest with a zip-up placket.

Materials:
Sportweight yarn (2 x 50 gm balls)
3.75 mm needles
4.00 mm needles
4.00 crochet hook
cable needle
6" zipper

 Back:
Cast on 66 stitches on smaller needles. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 12 rows. Change to larger needles. Work in stockinette stitch until piece measures 7".

Shape armholes:
Cast off 4 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows, then 2 stitches at the beginning of the next two rows, then cast off 1 stitch at the beginning of the next 6 rows. (48 st)
Work even until piece measures 11" from the beginning.

Shape shoulders:
Cast off 9 stitches at the beginning of the next 2 rows, then 5 stitches at the beginning of the following two rows. Cast off remaining 20 stitches.

Front:
Cast on 66 stitches on smaller needles. Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 12 rows. Change to larger needles. Establish the pattern as follows:
k14, p2, k6, p2, k18, p2, k6, p2, k14
*A cable twist will be worked on the k6 panel thusly: on the 9th, and every following 8th row, twist by placing the first 3 stitches of a k6 panel onto a cable needle, hold it in BACK of the work. Knit the other 3 stitches of the k6 panel from the left hand needle, then knit the 3 stitches from the cable needle.
Work in this established pattern until the piece measure 5" from the beginning.

Splitting the front:
Work in pattern for 33 stitches. Attach a second strand of yarn, work to end of row. Continue as two separate pieces at the same time, until it measures 7" from the beginning. (NOTE: The stitch immediately on either side of the front split whould be knit for every row.)

Shaping the armholes:Shape the armholes as for the back.

Work in pattern until piece measures 2" from the beginning of the armhole shaping.

Neck shaping:
On the inside edge of right front, cast off 6 stitches, work across left front, turn.
On the inside edge of left front, cast off 6 stitches, work across right front, turn.
Next row: Work in pattern to last two stitches of right front, k2tog. On left front, k2tog, pattern to end.
Next row: Work in established pattern.
Repeat these two rows 2 more times.
Work even until piece measures 11" from beginning.

Shape shoulders:
On the outside edge of right front, cast off 9 stitches, work across left front, turn.
On the outside edge of left front, cast off 9 stitches, work across right front, turn.
Cast off remaining 6 stitches of each half.

Making up:
Sew shoulder seams. With smaller needles, pick up 60 stitches evenly around right neck front, back, and left neck front. Work 12 rows in k1, p1 ribbing. Cast off loosely.

Work one row of single crochet along edge of front split, including the ribbing.
Insert zipper, with top of zipper positioned halfway up the neck ribbing. Fold ribbing in half towards inside, and stitch in place.

Pick up 56 stitches along each armhole edge and work in k1, p1 ribbing for 10 rows. Cast off loosely.
Sew up side seams. Fold armhole ribbing in half towards inside, and stitch in place.
