A funky, girlie vest with fuzzy trim

Materials (for a girl's size 4)
sport or DK weight yarn. (MC)
Eyelash-style novelty yarn. (I used Bernat Boa)
4.5 mm needles
Gauge: 28 st to 4 inches (10 cm)

Back:
CO 84 st in eyelash yarn. Knit every row for 4
rows. Change to MC.
Knit in stockinette stitch until piece measures 8".
Shape Armholes:
At beginning of next 2 rows, BO 5 st.
At beginning of next 2 rows, BO 4 st. Decrease 2 st at each end of needle on next RS row. (64 st)
Continue even until armhole measures 6 3/4".

Shape shoulders:
At beginning of next 2 rows, BO 6 st.
At beginning of next 4 rows, BO 5 st.
Place remaining 32 stitches on holder for back of neck.

Left front:
CO 42 st in eyelash yarn. Knit every row for 4 rows. Change to MC.
Knit in stockinette stitch until piece measures 8"

Shape armhole:
At beginning of RS row, BO 5 st.
At beginning of next RS row, BO 4 st.
At beginning of next RS row, BO 1 st. (32 st)

Shape neck:
With WS facing, BO 8 st
Work one row
Next row: At neck edge, BO 3 st
Work one row
Next row: At neck edge, BO 2 st
Dec 1 st at neck edge every WS row 3 times (16 st)
Continue even until armhole measures 6 3/4 inches.

Shape shoulder:
At beginning of next RS row, BO 6 st.
At beginning of next RS row, BO 5 st.
At beginning of next RS row, BO 5 st.

Right Front:
Work as Left Front, reversing all shaping

Finishing:
Armhole edges: Sew shoulder seams. With eyelash yarn, and with right side facing, pick up 78 st evenly around armhole edge. Knit 3 rows, BO. Repeat for other armhole edge.

Sew side seams.

Front edges: With eyelash yarn, and with right side facing, pick up 67 st evenly along front edge. Knit 3 rows, BO. Repeat for other front edge.

Neck edging: With eyelash yarn, and with right side facing, pick up 23 st along right front neck edge, k across 32 st from stitch holder, pick up 23 st along left front neck edge. Knit 3 rows, BO.

Make 8 ties, 7" long, out of MC yarn, and sew in pairs down front edges, with bottom tie 3" from bottom edge. (I made these ties with a chain of single crochet, but you can also make braids, twists, or I-cords.)
