This toque is knit from the top down. With a garter stitch crown, and a ribbing section folded up double, it makes a warm and toasty accessory for the coldest winter days.
Materials:
Worsted weight yarn
4.5 mm needles
24" 4.5 mm circular needle
With straight needles, cast on 6 stitches. (Switch to circular needles when the piece is large enough)
Row 1, and all alternate rows: Knit
Row 2: Inc 1 st in every st across (12 stitches)
Row 4: *k2, M1. Repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k1, M1, k1 (18 st)
Row 6: *k3, M1. Repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k2, M1, k1 (24 st)
Row 8: *k4, M1. Repeat from * to last 4 stitches, k3, M1, k1 (30 st)
Row 10: *k5, M1. Repeat from * to last 5 stitches, k4, M1, k1 (36 st)
Row 12: *k6, M1. Repeat from * to last 6 stitches, k5, M1, k1 (42 st)
Row 14: *k7, M1. Repeat from * to last 7 stitches, k6, M1, k1 (48 st)
Row 16: *k8, M1. Repeat from * to last 8 stitches, k7, M1, k1 (54 st)
Row 18: *k9, M1. Repeat from * to last 9 stitches, k8, M1, k1 (60 st)
Row 20: *k10, M1. Repeat from * to last 10 stitches, k9, M1, k1 (66 st)
Row 22: *k11, M1. Repeat from * to last 11 stitches, k10, M1, k1 (72 st)
Row 24: *k12, M1. Repeat from * to last 12 stitches, k11, M1, k1 (78 st)
Row 26: *k13, M1. Repeat from * to last 13 stitches, k12, M1, k1 (84 st)
Row 28: *k14, M1. Repeat from * to last 14 stitches, k13, M1, k1 (90 st)
Row 30: *k15, M1. Repeat from * to last 15 stitches, k14, M1, k1 (96 st)
Row 32: *k16, M1. Repeat from * to last 16 stitches, k15, M1, k1 (102 st)
Knit one round, decreasing 2 stitches evenly around. (100 stitches)
Work in K2, P2 ribbing until piece measures 8" from beginning of ribbing. Cast off loosely in rib. Sew up crown seam. To be worn with ribbing folded up.
