This makes an easy to wash, absorbent bib, and with the variety of cotton available, it can be made in any type of colour scheme you choose. It has a nice seed stitch border, and it buttons in the back.

Optional: The large section of stocking stitch would be suitable for any charted designs of up to about 22 stitches wide by 28 stitches high.

Materials:
1 skein worsted weight cotton, 50 gm
1 pair 4 mm needles
1 one inch wide button

Cast on 20 stitches, placing markers between the 4th and 5th stitch, and the 16th and 17th stitch. Start the seed stitch border with the following pattern:
Row 1: *k1, p1. Repeat from * to end.
Row 2: *p1, k1. Repeat from * to end.
Rows 3 and 4: as rows 1 and 2.
Row 5:(k1, p1) twice, inc in next stitch, k to last 5 stitches, inc in next stitch, (k1, p1) twice.
Row 6: (p1, k1) twice, purl to marker, (p1, k1) twice.
Repeat rows 5 and 6 until 40 stitches are on the needle.
Work even, maintaining the seed stitch border, until piece measures 6 1/2 inches.
Next row: (k1, p1) twice, k11, (k1,p1) 5 times, k11, (k1, p1) twice.
Next row: (p1, k1) twice, p11, (p1, k1) 5 times, p11, (p1, k1) twice.
Repeat these two rows once more.

Neck shaping and Neck straps:
Row 1: (k1, p1) twice, k10, p1. (Place these 15 stitches on a stitch holder, then continue.) Starting with a knit stitch, bind off the next 9 stitches in rib. p1, pass the second stitch on the right hand needle over the stitch you just purled, knit ot marker, (k1, p1) twice.
Row 2: (p1, k1) twice, purl to last 2 stitches, p1, k1.

Right Neck Strap:
Row 3: k1, p1, knit to marker, (k1, p1) twice
Row 4: (p1, k1) twice, purl to last 2 stitches, p1, k1
Row 5: k1, p1, ssk, knit to 2 stitches before marker, k2tog, (k1, p1) twice
Row 6: (p1, k1) twice, purl to last 2 stitches, p1, k1
Repeat rows 3 - 6 until there are 9 stitches on the needle.
Next row: k1, p1, ssk, p1, (k1, p1) twice
Next row: *p1, k1. Repeat from * to end
Continue in seed stitch until Right Neck Strap measures 6" from beginning of neck shaping.
Next row: k2tog, (k1, p1) twice, k2tog
Next row: (k1 p1) three times
Next row: k2tog, p1, k1, p2tog
Next row: (p1, k1) twice.
Bind off.

Left Neck Strap:
With wrong side facing, re-join yarn and work the stitches from stitch holder as follows:
p1, k1, purl to marker, (p1, k1) twice. Continue as follows:
Row 1: (k1, p1) twice, knit to last 2 stitches, k1, p1
Row 2: p1, k1, purl to marker, (p1, k1) twice
Row 3: (k1, p1) twice, ssk, knit to last 4 stitches, k2tog, k1, p1
Row 4: p1, k1, purl to marker, (p1, k1) twice
Repeat these 4 rows until there are 9 stitches on the needle.
Next row: With right side facing, (k1, p1) twice, ssk, p1, k1, p1
Next row: *p1, k1. Repeat from * to end.
Continue in seed stitch pattern until Left Neck Strap is 6" long, ending with RS facing.
Buttonhole:
Next row: p2tog, k2tog, yarn on needle twice, k2tog, p2tog.
Next row: *p1, k1. Repeat from * to end.
Next row: k2tog, p1, k1, p2tog
Next row: *p1, k1. Repear from * to end. Bind off.
Sew 1" button onto the end of the Right Neck Strap
